What Should I Write For a Professional Objective?

I am retiring after 28 years in law enforcement and I am applying for a job working court security. Can you help me put together a sentence or two to submit under "professional objective?"

Answer:

Here are a few examples for your objective...

  • To obtain a position as a court security officer in the Oakland County court where I can utilize my 28 years of experience in law enforcement to ensure safety in the courtroom.

  • Retired police officer with 28 years of experience in law enforcement seeking an opportunity to protect the Oakland County court, and to ensure safety and order in the courtroom.
In creating these objectives, I obviously made assumptions based on information that I do not know, so you will need to adjust as necessary. For example, you stated that you are retired from law enforcement and I assumed that you were a police officer.

I recommend that for each court and/or position that you apply for, change your objective to specifically match the position (ex. job title, court county). This shows that you are interested in that specific position. Recruiters like to know that you want to work specifically in their location or organization, and not just anywhere.

I hope that you find this information helpful, and I wish you the best of luck in transitioning your career from law enforcement to court security!

Sincerely,

Victoria E.
